Another GREAT Question from Marion Hansen, on our Facebook Group! ....Check out the original Post here: facebook.com/groups/tarotguild/posts/4279320022107747

Marion Writes:

I could really use some advice on how to learn card combinations. Does that come over time as I am learning or are there exercises I can do? I can do a reading and it gives me a general idea of the cards and what is going on but I'd like to dive a bit deeper.

Card Combinations do come with time, but you can do exercises, as well as see what "others" have come up with (research), for combinations.

One exercise is to lay out three cards, and just look at the imagery, symbolism, and what you know about each card ...but most importantly, "what is happening" in each card. Then try to put them together in sort of a "story", or think of it as a "Sentence"!

9198799871?profile=RESIZE_930xSay you have the Knight of Cups, the Four of Wands and the Two of Cups (or The Hireophant)?

The Knight is headed "towards" the other Cards, coming in from the left. It's Cups, so the Water Element,  emotions, relationships, feelings, romance. The Knights (as well as the Pages) often bring messages as well...

In the center, the Four of Wands, traditionally about a "celebration". Lastly the Two of Cups, beginning of a "new romance". Two people "coming together". Voilà! An invitation to a Wedding and/or Reception!

9198805294?profile=RESIZE_930xYou can also do this with another student or more, and look at combinations together, bouncing ideas off each other! The Tarot Guild website is a great place to do this! There's the Live Chat Room, and we could even setup a Zoom!

There are also the cases when multiples of the same card comes up. In fact, it's NO ACCIDENT that you asked this today Marion, as I covered information on when you get multiples of "Aces" showing up, in my "Spread of The Day" post TODAY! ...Be sure to read that, if you haven't already!!: thetarotguild.com/articles/SOTD07032021

9198811069?profile=RESIZE_710xTarot Readers often see Four Kings showing up as indicating a "board meeting" type situation, for example.

They see three or four Queens as indicating a "social circle", "knitting circle", etc. ...I know! ...Kinda "sexist", BUT - you get the idea!

In the comments on your post, what Karen said was spot-on: "Try learning numerology and a bit of astrology, to go deeper"

9198819072?profile=RESIZE_710xI use Numerology all the time! Coming up with three "3" cards? It's indicating hightened Creativity and Communication. Multiple "5" cards? ...High-Energy, a lot of Changes or Challenges, or an Adventurous Spirit!

Lot's of "8" cards? ....Abundance and Prosperity coming in!

Remember Tarot is "visual"! Lay out combinations you are curious about, and "look". What do you come up with?

By the way, that's very important! Learning Tarot is like learning a new language. You are programming into your mind associations with individual cards, as well as combinations of cards. Don't let people tell you "it has to mean this, or that"!

Use other's ideas on Card Combinations as a "Guide", but what's important is what they mean to YOU! ...Jaime was right, in the comments on your post, as well.... "Keep it simple"!

9198820676?profile=RESIZE_180x180I myself love doing Google searches, just to see what others are saying about Card Combinations! ....It's best to ask specific Questions, like: "What do Three Pages in a Tarot Reading mean?"

There are also Books on the topic! ...Check out Dorothy Kelly's "Tarot Card Combinations"!
