Yes, we've all heard it before: "The Rich are selfish", "less compassionate", even "mean". Just a quick Google search will reveal some 22,100,000 results, with articles and studies telling us these things...
....but, as with so many perceptions, actually the reverse is true. Folks have this 180 degrees backwards!
It's actually Selfish NOT be Rich! ....Having Wealth is the most compassionate thing you can do!
We've also heard: "Money is the root of all Evil!" ...Again, not true. Money is an "Energy Exchange" between two or more people, or entities. That's all...
Creating Value for others, which then results in an Energy-Exchange, is actually a very GOOD thing! ...and the "amount" of Energy accumulated is neither good, nor bad, in and of itself.
Anything perceived as negative, in this regard, is actually the mismanagement of the Energy, a case of Lack-Mentality, or some other failing intrinsic to the "human condition".
It has nothing to do with the Energy itself, or the accumulation of it....
The premise that Money leads naturally, and always, to avarice, greed, selfishness, being uncompassionate, is merely shifting blame from the person onto inanimate material and digital proxies.
In fact, being wealthly allows individuals, groups and entities to be more compassionate! To help and give to the less fortunate. Most religions teach this, most notably in the concept of "Tithing", which dates back to early Jewish scripture (The Old Testament), and carried forward in most Christian Churchs.
Zakāt or "alms giving", is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. Buddhists have almsgiving as well. Dashamamsha is an acknowledgement of God's part in the person's good fortune ...with the resources a person wishes to give away. So tithing of a sort exists in Hinduism and amongst the vast majority of Indians who are Hindus.
The more resources one has, the more one can help others. Let's take a look at an example, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation:
